How We Protect Your Home

A renovation shouldn't mean dust in every room and a mess you live with for weeks. We seal off the work, scrub the air, guard your floors, and reset the site every single day — so the rest of your home stays clean, safe, and yours the whole time.

The mess is the part nobody warns you about.

Ask anyone who's lived through a renovation and the dust is what they remember — fine grit on every surface, in closets two floors away, weeks after the work was done. We treat your home like someone still lives there, because you do. Here's exactly how we keep the dust contained, the air clean, and your space livable from day one to handover.

Hospital-Grade HEPA Air Filtration

Renovation dust is more than a nuisance — it's fine enough to travel through your whole home and into your lungs. So we run a hospital-grade HEPA air scrubber inside the sealed work zone and vent it to the outside. That pulls the dusty air out and holds the work area at lower pressure than the rest of your home, so dust gets pulled toward the machine and out — never out into your living space.

Why it matters: Your family keeps breathing clean air, your furniture and belongings stay clean, and you're not still finding fine dust in your closets months later.

Sealed, Protected, and Locked Down

Before any demolition begins, we build a barrier between the work zone and the rest of your home — and we document everything first. Here's what that looks like:

We photograph first — before a single tool comes in, we photograph your existing floors and finishes and log them, so the condition of your home is on the record from day one.

Floors vacuumed, then armoured — we HEPA-vacuum the floor first (trapped grit under protection acts like sandpaper), then lay a self-adhesive floor guard across it, with heavy-duty runners down the main walking paths.

Sealed dust walls — heavy poly barriers with zippered doors, sealed floor to ceiling on day one, so dust never reaches your living space.

Your furnace protected — supply vents in the work area are sealed off, and return-air grilles get a breathable filter so dust can't travel through your ductwork — without ever choking the furnace.

Smoke detectors covered — temporary covers go over the detectors in the work zone, shielding them from dust damage and preventing false alarms during demolition.

Utilities made safe — water lines capped and electrical circuits locked out as needed, so the work area is safe for everyone in the home.

Why it matters: The protection goes up before the mess starts — not after. Your floors, your air, your furnace, and your family are guarded from the very first day.

A Daily Reset, Every Single Day

The last 30 minutes of every work day are set aside for cleanup — built right into the schedule, and everyone on site takes part. Tools get put away, materials organized, garbage carried out (never left inside overnight), and the work area HEPA-vacuumed clean. We never sweep, because sweeping just throws fine dust back into the air. We vacuum it out instead.

The washroom test. The bathroom you let us use gets cleaned to a hotel-clean standard every single day — left cleaner than we found it. If we wouldn't be comfortable having our own family use it five minutes after we leave, it isn't finished.

Why it matters: You come home to order, not chaos. Every evening your home is calm and clean again, instead of a worksite you have to navigate around until the job is done.

Protecting Your Home — Common Questions

We work hard to make sure it doesn't. Sealed poly dust walls with zippered doors close off the work zone, your vents are protected so dust can't travel through your ducts, and a HEPA scrubber holds the work area at lower pressure and vents the dusty air outside. No renovation is perfectly dust-free, but this is how we keep your living space genuinely clean.

First we HEPA-vacuum the floor clean — because grit trapped under floor protection grinds like sandpaper underfoot. Then we lay a self-adhesive floor guard over the whole path, with heavy-duty runners down the main walkways. Your floors look the same when we leave as they did when we arrived. We also photograph their condition before we start.

We protect it. Supply vents in the work area are sealed so debris can't fall into the ductwork, and return-air grilles get a breathable filter that catches dust while still letting the furnace draw air — so your system is shielded from dust without ever being starved or damaged.

Yes — the last 30 minutes of every day are reserved for it, built into the schedule, with everyone on site taking part. Tools away, garbage out, and the area HEPA-vacuumed. We never sweep, because that kicks fine dust back into the air. Even the washroom is reset to a hotel-clean standard. You come home to a clean, calm space every evening.

Sweeping lifts the finest, most harmful dust right back into the air, where it spreads and settles all over again. A HEPA vacuum captures that fine dust and traps it, so it's actually removed from your home instead of just moved around.

In most cases, yes. The whole point of sealing the work zone, scrubbing the air, and resetting the site daily is to keep the rest of your home clean, safe, and livable while we work. We'll talk through your specific project so you know exactly what to expect.

Your home, treated like someone lives there

Because you do. Protecting your space isn't an add-on for us — it's built into how we work, every day, on every project. Clean air, guarded floors, a protected furnace, a sealed work zone, and a daily reset. That's what "We Build" looks like when it's done with respect for your home. Let's talk about your project.
