Tub-to-Shower Conversions — Oshawa & Durham Region
But you still climb over its wall every single day — and that step gets riskier every year. It's the most common place to slip in the whole house. A tub-to-shower conversion replaces it with a walk-in shower — real waterproofing, clean tile work, glass that opens up the room. Done in one to two weeks, with your price locked before we start.
Stepping over a tub wall is the most common place to slip in a home. A low-threshold shower with a grab bar makes your bathroom safer for every age.
Planning to stay put as you get older — or helping a parent do the same? A walk-in shower is the single best upgrade for aging in place.
A glass shower with fresh tile changes the whole room — without the cost or disruption of a full bathroom remodel.
We look at your bathroom, talk through what you want, and check the plumbing and walls.
You pick your tile, glass, and fixtures. Then your price is locked in writing before we start.
Tub out, proper waterproofing in, tile and glass installed. We clean up every single day.
We walk the finished shower with you. Your 5-year workmanship warranty starts at handover.
A tub-to-shower conversion looks simple — the tub comes out, a shower goes in. What separates a shower that lasts from one that leaks is everything that happens behind the tile.
The tub, surround, and wallboard come out down to the studs. This is when we check the framing and subfloor for hidden water damage from the old tub — and fix it properly instead of covering it up. Old plumbing shut-offs and the drain rough-in get inspected at the same time.
The tub drain is moved and resized for a shower, and a new pressure-balanced shower valve goes in — not a reused tub valve. If you're adding a rain head or handheld, the supply lines are run now, inside an open wall, where the work is clean.
We build the shower on a fully sealed Schluter system — sloped base, waterproof membrane on every wall, sealed corners and seams. The base is flood-tested before a single tile goes on. This is the difference between our conversion and a glued-on acrylic liner: liners cover your walls, a membrane system protects them.
Real tile, set flat and level, with a built-in niche for shampoo instead of a wire rack. Then the glass panel or door, silicone in the wet joints, and fixtures mounted into solid backing. If you want a grab bar now or later, we put wood blocking in the wall while it's open — so it anchors into structure, not drywall.
Most of our tub-to-shower conversions land between $12,000 and $22,000, depending on three things: your tile selection, the glass (a fixed panel costs less than a framed door, frameless costs more), and whether any plumbing has to move. Moving the drain or adding a second shower head pushes the number up; keeping the layout as-is keeps it down. Whatever your scope, the number is fixed in writing before we start — and it doesn't change unless you change the scope.
Cheaper acrylic-liner conversions exist — that's a cover, not a rebuild. We only build it the way we'd want it in our own home: torn out, waterproofed, and tiled to spec.
Real Durham Region bathrooms, documented on our own job sites — the tub that came out, and the shower that went in.
Every conversion comes with a price locked in writing before we start, daily cleanup, HEPA air filtration, and a 5-year workmanship warranty. The waterproofing behind your tile is done to spec every time — because a shower that leaks into the wall is a renovation nobody wants twice.
