Restaurant & Kiosk Construction

Commercial kitchen rough-ins, dining room builds, kiosk construction, and food service fit-outs — built to health code and ready for inspection from day one, not scrambling to fix it after.

What's Involved

Back of House to Front of House

A food service build carries requirements a standard commercial fit-up doesn't — from grease traps to hood ventilation — whether it's a full restaurant or a compact kiosk.

Commercial Kitchen

  • Hood and ventilation rough-in sized for your cooking equipment, with the fire suppression system code requires above it.
  • Gas line rough-in for cooking equipment, installed and inspected under a TSSA gas permit where required.
  • Grease interceptor and floor drains installed to your municipality's sewer use bylaw before the health inspector ever walks through.
  • Food-safe, cleanable finishes on walls and floors that meet health department expectations.

Dining Room & Kiosk

  • Seating layout and flooring built for commercial traffic and easy cleanup, with accessible seating and path of travel planned in.
  • Counter and service area builds for quick-service and kiosk formats, sized for your footprint.
  • Lighting and electrical for the front of house separate from the kitchen's higher-demand circuits.

Before Any Wall Goes Up

Permits, Health Code, and Inspection

Food service space answers to more than a building inspector — health department, gas fitting, and fire code all sign off before you can open.

Building Permit

Kitchen build-outs, new plumbing and electrical, and layout changes all require a building permit through your municipality. We pull and manage it.

Health Department Approval

Your local public health unit reviews the kitchen layout, finishes, and equipment before you can operate. We build to what they'll be checking for.

TSSA Gas Permit

Any gas-fired cooking equipment needs gas fitting done and inspected under a Technical Standards and Safety Authority permit.

Fire Suppression

Cooking equipment under a hood requires a fire suppression system that meets fire code — inspected and certified before opening.

Common Questions

Restaurant & Kiosk FAQ

Do you handle the health department approval process?
We build to what your local public health unit expects to see — proper finishes, floor drains, and equipment layout — and coordinate around their review process. The health inspection itself is between you and the health unit, but we make sure the build is ready for it.
What's a grease interceptor and do I need one?
A grease interceptor traps fats, oils, and grease before wastewater reaches the municipal sewer system. Most municipalities require one for any commercial kitchen discharging grease-laden waste. We confirm your municipality's specific requirement and size it to your equipment during planning.
Do you install commercial kitchen hoods and ventilation?
Yes. We size and install the hood and ventilation system to your cooking equipment, along with the fire suppression system that has to sit above it, and coordinate the inspections both require.
Can you build out a small kiosk, not just a full restaurant?
Yes. Kiosk and quick-service builds follow a smaller version of the same process — counter and equipment layout, electrical, and any plumbing your equipment needs, scaled to the footprint.
Do you pull gas permits for cooking equipment?
Yes. Gas-fired cooking equipment requires a TSSA gas fitting permit and inspection, which we manage as part of the project alongside your building permit.
Do you work across Durham Region and the GTA?
Yes. We take on restaurant and food service projects across Durham Region and the wider GTA, with the same standard on every job — a dedicated point of contact, a written schedule, and permits handled from application to final inspection.
Every project starts with a site visit. Costs and timelines vary too much by scope, equipment, and existing conditions to quote in general terms — book a consultation and we'll walk your space and give you a fixed price in writing.
